Tech: Asus Canada
ASUS has risen to become one of the top computer and electronic companies and has been recognized as a leader in the industry since it was founded in Taipei in 1989.
In 1989, the PC era had just begun, and many electronic companies, especially in Taiwan, wanted to capitalize in this field. IBM also contributed to the open architecture systems, creating computers built from off the shelf parts. They made it clear for manufacturers that anyone can produce their own PC components. That was the time when former Acer’s employees Wayne Hsieh, TH Tung, MT Liao and Ted Hsu had enough experience in the promising area and decided to establish their own company – ASUS. Why this name? There was a desire to be closer to the top of the alphabet, so from the original word «Pegasus» (al-Greek. «Pegasus” – a symbol of success and rebirth in the Greek mythology.) They kept only the last four letters. Adding a few inspirational wording at the end, the «ASUSTeK Computer Incorporated» company was created.
For several years, ASUS has been a young and dynamic company, developing motherboards for new Intel 486 processors, increasing production volume and hiring new staff. Many proprietary technologies have been developed, many of which later became the de facto standard. In 1994 Jonney Shih joined the company as an executive director and proposed the creation of an independent company (Johnny Shih is still working in the company as a president). Pretty soon, under his leadership, ASUS has become the world leader in quality and quantity of produced motherboards – thanks to the creative approach to market problems, the company succeeded in the production of motherboards in almost all segments.
Asus products could only be used in computer tower cases and thus limited their company grow. That’s why they decided to try another market and develop new types of products with their “Computers, Communications, Consumer Electronics” strategy. In 1997 ASUS has announced its first laptop and after a successful debut, the company decided not to lag behind other manufacturers, placing special emphasis on the new category of consumer devices.
Due to the fact that ASUS has succeeded in the motherboards production, the company had funds for further business development. In this regard, 2005 turned out to be particularly beneficial for ASUS. It all started with a product concept. The Republic of Gamers, designed primarily for gamers and enthusiasts using the most advanced and high-tech products, with affordable pricing.

In June 5, 2007, at the Computex technology show, ASUS and Intel introduced a new public UMPC (Ultra Mobile PC), which subsequently formed a new class of devices, netbooks. The first representative of the new series is the netbook ASUS EeePC 701 (running on a Intel Celeron M CPU), whose appearance really made other laptop manufacturers think about the future of all portable PC’s.
In January 3, 2008 the company had a major reorganization, which resulted in three separate industrial companies:
ASUSTeK Computer, which began to produce all products exclusively under its own brand (motherboards, notebooks, smart phones, monitors, servers and communications equipment, multimedia devices and consumer electronics).
Pegatron Technology, which started to produce desktops, cases and other devices.
Unihan Technology who was responsible for contract manufacturing of computer components. Among the clients – leading manufacturers of complex equipment (OED), distributors, resellers (VAR) and system integrators in over 50 countries around the world.
In 2009, ASUS with Garmin has organized a partnership, whose main objective is to produce devices under the brand name Nuvifone, which featured a smartphone with a full navigation component. More recently, the duo released a new model, the GarminASUS A50, running under the Android OS. Aside from navigation, Asus also focused on selling tablets and portable PCs such as the Eee Asus Slate, Eee Pad Transformer, Eee Transformer Prime and others. Since its inception in 1989 the company has gone from the obscure “Pegasus” to a large international corporation ASUSTeK Computer Inc., with over 100,000 employees working around the globe and with the Asus Canada Branch Office in located in Markham, Ontario.

To date, ASUS products are one of the best selling in the area of ??mobile technology and computers. Among the Taiwanese manufacturers, ASUS has the highest quality products, and with that should propel them being the top manufacturer in the world.
