Gaming events are starting to gain sponsorships just like sporting events
You’ve probably heard of leagues such as MLB, NBA, NFL or NHL. These of course are all sport leagues that have teams that represent different cities. But have you heard of MLG?

It’s true though, PC gaming has become so popular over the past few years that elite level tournaments are being held yearly to determine who the best gamer is. The top prize is not only bragging rights, but thousands of dollars and international fame (within the gaming community of course). And it’s not surprising that just like sporting events, MLG tournaments are sponsored by some of the big names out there. Sure you won’t see Nike or Addias but in the gaming world MSI, Gigabyte, ASUS, Razer, just to name a few, those are big.
Razer has been a huge player in the gaming world, and their Razer gaming line has been sponsoring teams and individuals with monetary sponsorships to equipment. MadCatz, another top player has been one of the top sponsors when it comes to tournaments and is well known within the community. Just like other sport teams, gaming teams try to gather up sponsors to fund their tournament runs. Of course, preparing for a gaming tournament is no different from any other, players need to practice and equipment don’t come cheap. Top of the line gaming systems can cost up to $8000+, so teams need help from those big time players. Asus is one of those companies who sponsor teams through their Republic of Gamers line by providing gear and equipment. The same can be said with other companies like MSI and Gigabyte so when the tournaments begin, it’s no surprise that these company logos are posted everywhere, from posters to the player’s shirts.

So there you have it, Jocks have sports, Musicians have concerts and us geeks, well we too have our super bowl of gaming and maybe one day it’ll be televised you never know.
